Scope & Planning

Kickoff meeting with the client outlining scope of the project as well as gaining access to the BETA version of the app for research purposes.

Utilizing various questions over an hour of interviewing, helped me formulate an outline of what he wants the app to look like.

RESEARCH

I decided to dive into golf head first, learn more about the sport than I ever thought I would. I hit the driving range, visited various club houses and even made a trip to Top Gold (LV) to view their user interface. I spent time interviewing friends that play, researching other app in the current space, and hours researching color pallets and other designs such as architecture and automotive. This images would help me in the next phase of my development process.

INSPIRATION Boards

I set out to create inspiration board to help get the client and I heading in the same direction. Creating 3 boards that are distinctly different from one another allowed for great dialog and feedback.

Clubhouse

Think of a digital clubhouse, simple clean and dedicated to golf. Colors enbody golf at it core, minus the arguile. Slight gradients elevate this style ensuring a very professional look.

Tech SAvy

Fast and fun meets tech. This style was inspired by current sports websites in the market, mixing in some tech.

Fun-Tech

Inspired by my trip to Las Vegas giant outdoor arcade Top Golf. This look centered around bright colors bringing the “game” aspect to the goal setting and achievement reaching interaction of the app.

Ideation

With some feedback from the client, i moved to quick ideation through hand sketches. Keeping my focus on the initial concepts as well as feedback given though the initial inspiration boards. Ensuring the clients wishes and needs were meet.

After working through some of these initial app store icons, and fancying the idea of a oversized letter to show consistency across the apps icons. I engaged in talks about the taxonomy and presented the below as Practice and Play would not work.

Current:

Goals / Practice / Play

Purpose:

Goals / Train / Play
Goals / Practice / Rounds
Goals / Practice / Links

Utilizing any of the new options would allow me to implement this clean, simplistic design system, throughout the app.

A quick review of the Taxonomy with the client, allowed me to move forward keeping my dream alive, under one condition, no adding “MyGolf” to each of the app icons.
